Dr. Laurence Gluch

Breast and Reconstructive Surgeon, Thyroid Surgeon

Breast and Reconstructive Surgeon, Thyroid Surgeon.

Dr Laurence Gluch is a specialist breast and thyroid surgeon.  He graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand in 1985. He completed his advanced surgical training at Royal North Shore Hospital becoming a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.

After receiving his surgical fellowship he undertook research in Magnetic Resonance at the Institute for Magnetic Resonance Research in Sydney and in 2003 was awarded a Ph.D. by the University of Sydney for his thesis on the application of Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy and Imaging in the diagnosis of Breast Cancer. He undertook a visiting fellowship with Dr. Ferenc Jolesz, pioneer of interventional magnetic resonance surgery, at the Brigham and Womens’ Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston.

Dr Gluch now works in both the public and private hospital systems offering patients compassionate care in general surgery with a particular focus on breast and thyroid disorders. He utilises state of the art techniques aiming always to offer patients the very best cosmetic results while having an excellent understanding of what is required to treat the cancer. Where appropriate he is able to offer women immediate breast reconstruction.

As an endocrine surgeon he specialises in the surgical management of benign and malignant thyroid and parathyroid gland disorders.

Dr Gluch holds memberships in the Breast and Endocrine sections of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.  He is also a member of the International Surgical Society and the Australasian Society for Breast Diseases. He actively participates in multidisciplinary team meetings at The Strathfield Breast Centre

He operates at Concord Hospital and the Strathfield Private Hospital and holds an appointment as Clinical Lecturer in Surgery at the University of Sydney.

Dr Gluch has a strong commitment to developing new knowledge and understanding of surgical problems and serves as an Editor for the Open Access Journal Frontiers in Oncology.

From a relatively diverse range of interests during his training years Dr Gluch has necessarily focused his research to improving breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.  Below is a list of his publications showing this broad scope of work.  Open Access publications can be downloaded by clicking on the link.
